Job Title: Village Maintenance Worker
Position Type: Part-Time (Up to 40 hours per month)
Location: Indianola, Illinois
Reports To: Village President

Job Summary:

The Village Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to maintain and improve the appearance, safety, and functionality of village-owned properties and infrastructure. This part-time position requires up to 40 hours of work per month, with the expectation that the worker will complete a timecard to accurately report hours worked.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Maintenance: Perform minor repairs and maintenance on village buildings, including but not limited to painting, plumbing, and basic carpentry.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Mow, run string trimmer, remove brush, trim overgrowth, remove weeds, and maintain flower beds on village properties.
  • Road and Sidewalk Maintenance: Repair potholes, fill cracks, remove brush, trim overgrowth from roads and allies, and ensure sidewalks are clear of debris and safe for pedestrian use.
  • Street Sign Maintenance: Install, repair, and replace street signs and other village signage as necessary.
  • Snow Removal: Clear snow and ice from village streets, sidewalks, and public areas as needed.
  • Trash and Debris Removal: Regularly remove litter, empty trash cans, and ensure public areas are clean and presentable. Place trash toters at the curb the night before trash pickup.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Safely operate and maintain village-owned equipment and hand tools.
  • Annual Town/Storm Clean-Up: Participate in the annual town clean-up efforts and assist with the removal of debris and other clean-up activities following storms or other weather-related events.
  • Holiday Light Installation: Install, maintain, and remove holiday lights and decorations on village properties and public spaces during the holiday season.
  • Reporting: Complete and submit a timecard to the Village Clerk or designated supervisor at the end of each work period, accurately documenting hours worked and tasks completed.
  • Other duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license.
  • Experience in general maintenance, landscaping, or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of hand tools and light machinery.
  • Experience driving a town truck, operating a snowplow, and driving a tractor.
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, and repair techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor in various weather conditions.

Work Schedule:

  • The Village Maintenance Worker will be authorized to work up to 40 hours per month.
  • Work hours are flexible but must be coordinated with the Village President.
  • The worker is required to fill out a timecard accurately reflecting hours worked, to be submitted at the end of the month.

Compensation:

Compensation is in accordance with the Illinois Minimum Wage Law.
